1. Who we are

Baba (“we”, “us”) makes the Baba app for iPhone and iPad (the “App”) and the website readbaba.com (the “Website”), together the “Service”. This policy explains what information the Service uses, why, and the choices you have.

2. Information the App uses

Device token: If you allow notifications, Apple gives the App an anonymous push token. We store it with your notification choices (which categories, quiet hours, language) so we can send only what you asked for. It is not your Apple ID or phone number.
Approximate location, only in Hromada: If you let Hromada use your location, or type a ZIP or postal code, the App sends that position with the search so the server can return the nearest places. It is used for that search only and is not stored.
Technical information: Our servers receive the usual technical details of any internet request, such as IP address, app version and language, to deliver content and keep the Service secure. These logs are short-lived.

3. Information that stays on your device

Your language, text size, appearance, calendar style, chosen sources and bookmarks (including saved article text) are stored on your iPhone or iPad. Deleting the App deletes them.

4. What we do not collect

Your name, email address or phone number
Contacts, photos or files
Precise location history
Payment details (purchases are handled entirely by Apple)
Advertising identifiers
Activity in other apps or websites

The App contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software from any third party.

5. How we use information

To deliver news, faith, culture, radio and other content in your chosen language
To send the notifications you turned on, and respect your quiet hours
To find Hromada places near the location you gave
To keep the Service running, secure and free of errors

6. Service providers

We run our own servers and use a small number of providers to operate the Service. None of them may use your information for their own purposes.

Hosting and network: Our servers run on infrastructure we operate in the European Union, delivered through Cloudflare.
Database: Upstash stores news, notification settings and device tokens.
Notifications: Apple Push Notification service delivers notifications to your device.
Read-aloud voices: When the App uses a neural voice, the text of the article being read is sent to Microsoft’s speech service. No personal information is sent.
Translation and summaries: Some public news, such as English versions of RISU articles and the spoken daily briefing, is translated or summarised by Anthropic’s Claude on our servers. Only public news text is sent, never information about you.

7. Sharing

We do not sell, rent or trade information. We would disclose information only if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

8. How long we keep information

Device tokens and notification choices: Deleted automatically after 30 days without activity.
News content: Headlines and excerpts are kept for about 48 hours.
Server logs: Kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.

9. Links to other sites

Articles, podcasts, radio and video come from their publishers. When you open them, that publisher’s own privacy policy applies.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

11. Your choices and rights

Turn notifications off in the App’s Settings or in iOS Settings at any time
Use Hromada without location by typing a postal code, or not at all
Delete the App to remove everything stored on your device
Ask us to delete the device token linked to your notifications

Residents of California (CCPA), Canada (PIPEDA), the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (GDPR) have rights to access, correct and delete their information, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them. Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are legitimate interest (operating the Service) and consent (notifications and location). We answer every request within 30 days.

12. The Website

readbaba.com sets no cookies for tracking, advertising or analytics. It remembers your preferred text size in your own browser. The administrative area uses a session cookie for staff only. To see which pages and download buttons are used, the website counts visits with Umami, privacy-friendly software we run ourselves at stats.szeremeta.org. It stores nothing on your device, never keeps your IP address, and shares nothing with advertisers or any other company. It records the page, the site you came from, your approximate country, and your browser, device type and language. It also records clicks on App Store and download links. It cannot follow you from one site to another or identify you. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, the website does not count your visit. The Baba app itself contains no analytics.

13. Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the App if the change is significant.
