About Baba
What is Baba?
Baba is an iPhone and iPad app for the Ukrainian diaspora. It brings Ukrainian news, politics, the war, Orthodox faith, culture, radio, podcasts and a directory of Ukrainian community life into one calm app, in Ukrainian and English.
Who is it for?
For Ukrainians abroad, and especially for older readers. Baba was designed for a grandmother, so every screen is readable without help. Children and grandchildren use it too.
What does “Baba” mean?
Баба is Ukrainian for grandmother. The app was made for one.
Price and devices
How much does Baba cost?
$1.99, once, on the App Store. There are no subscriptions, no ads and no in-app purchases.
Which devices does it work on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. On iPad there is a sidebar that is always visible; on iPhone, large tiles on the home screen.
Can the whole family use one purchase?
Yes. With Apple Family Sharing, one purchase can be shared with up to five family members.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Baba is available for iPhone and iPad.
Content
Where does the news come from?
From 36 hand-picked sources, including Ukrainska Pravda, the Kyiv Independent, Suspilne, Ukrinform, Radio Svoboda, NV, BBC News Ukrainian and DW. There is no Russian state media. The full list is on our Sources page.
Is Baba in Ukrainian or English?
Both, completely. Switch at any time in Settings and everything changes: menus, headlines, the calendar and the Liturgy texts.
Does Baba include faith content?
Yes. The Faith section follows the Orthodox year on the Julian or Revised Julian calendar, with feasts, saints, fasting, readings, the full Bible, the Divine Liturgy and live services. It can be hidden if you don't need it.
Can I hide graphic war content?
It is hidden by default. Graphic articles are kept out of the feed and sensitive photos are blurred unless you change this in Settings.
Privacy
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login.
Does Baba track me or sell my data?
No. Baba has no advertising and no tracking, and keeps no personal profile. Notification choices are tied to an anonymous device token, and bookmarks stay on your device.
